چکیده

KeeLoq is a block cipher used in wireless devices that unlock doors in cars manufactured by Chrysler, Daewoo, Fiat, GM, Honda, Jaguar, Toyota, Volvo, Volkswagen, etc [4]. It was designed in the 80’s by Willem Smit from South Africa and in 1995 was sold to Microchip Technology Inc for more than 10 million USD. Though no attack on this cipher have been found thus far, the 64-bit key size makes it no longer secure. Hackers and car thieves exploit this, to recover the key by brute

Attacks on the KeeLoq Block Cipher and Authentication Systems

KeeLoq is a block cipher used in numerous widespread passive entry and remote keyless entry systems as well as in various component identification applications. The KeeLoq algorithm has a 64-bit key and operates on 32-bit blocks. It is based on an NLFSR with a nonlinear feedback function of 5 variables. In this paper new key recovery attacks on KeeLoq are proposed. The first one has a complexit...

Random Permutation Statistics and an Improved Slide-Determine Attack on KeeLoq

KeeLoq is a lightweight block cipher which is extensively used in the automotive industry [7, 8, 14, 15]. Its periodic structure, and overall simplicity makes it vulnerable to many different attacks. Only certain attacks are considered as really “practical” attacks on KeeLoq: the brute force, and several other attacks which require up to 2 known plaintexts and are then much faster than brute fo...

Periodic Ciphers with Small Blocks and Cryptanalysis of Keeloq

KeeLoq is a lightweight block cipher that is massively used in the automobile industry [12, 13, 31, 32]. KeeLoq has two remarkable properties: it is periodic and has a very short block size (32 bits). Many different attacks on KeeLoq have been published in recent years [8, 15, 9, 10, 5]. In this paper we study a unique way of attacking KeeLoq, in which the periodic property of KeeLoq is used in...

Analysis and design of block cipher constructions

This thesis is dedicated to symmetric cryptographic algorithms. The major focus of the work is on block ciphers themselves as well as on hash functions and message authentication codes based on block ciphers. Three main approaches to the cryptanalysis of symmetric cryptographic algorithms are pursued. First, several block cipher constructions are analyzed mathematically using statistical crypta...
